Nine BC Games Alumni Represent Canada at the 2021 FIS Junior World and U23 Championships

In December, Nordiq Canada announced its FIS Junior World and U23 Championships athletes for 2021, which took place in Lahti and Vuokatti, Finland, from February 6-13. The BC Games is proud to share that out of the 20 Canadian athletes who qualified, 9 are from BC and all competed at the BC Winter Games. Nordic Canada chose 20 athletes, 10 for World Junior’s and 10 for U23’s, with five women and five men per category.

Anna Huber named Karina LeBlanc Game Changer Award winner

The BC Games Society is pleased to announce that Anna Huber, a Thomas Haney Secondary Student, is the inaugural recipient of the Karina LeBlanc Game Changer Award. Named after hometown hero Karina LeBlanc, retired Olympic bronze medalist and one of the longest serving soccer players for Canada, the award recognizes and celebrates young individuals who have created opportunities for underrepresented youth in their community to participate more fully in sport.

BC Games Alumnus Josh Dueck Named Chef de Mission for Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games

The Canadian Paralympic Committee has named BC Games alumnus and retired Para alpine skier Josh Dueck as Canada's chef de mission for the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games. As chef de mission, Dueck will promote the Canadian Paralympic Team and mentor athletes, coaches, and staff.

BC Games Official Appointed to Order of Canada

On November 27, 2020, the governor general announced the newest members of the Order of Canada, one of our country’s highest civilian honours. Among the 114 new appointees is former BC Games official Tim Frick. Frick has been appointed for his expertise in coaching and his contributions to the advancement of parasports in Canada, exemplifying the Order’s motto: “DESIDERANTES MELIOREM PATRIAM” ("They desire a better country").
