External Sport Credits - Getting School Credits for Sport Training

External Sport Credits may be available for athletes who participate in an ongoing training program that enables them to qualify for and/or participate in the BC Winter or BC Summer Games. The availability of credits for sports and the requirements for receiving the credits were developed by the Sport Branch of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport in conjunction with Provincial Sport Organizations.

Claiming credits:

  1. Check the Ministry of Education and Child Care website to see a list of sports that are eligible to receive credits. Note that for the BC Summer and BC Winter Games age groups, the credit is likely for Athlete 10.
  2. BC Games participants whose sport is eligible for Athlete 10 External Sport Credentials must contact their Provincial Sport Organization (PSO) to verify participation in the BC Games and an ongoing training program and to receive the letter which must be presented to the school counselor to obtain the credit.
  3. See the BC Games website to determine the respective PSO. A link to the PSO website where contact information can be obtained is provided on the sport-specific pages:
