During the current COVID-19 pandemic, mental health awareness is more important than ever. The Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence (PISE) and viaSport have recently partnered with the Buddy Check for Jesse Society, a program bringing awareness to mental health in sport. 

The BC Sports Hall of Fame held its 2020 Annual Summit virtually on Friday, September 18th, to celebrate the 125th Anniversary of curling in B.C. and to announce the winners of the Eric Whitehead Inspired Service Awards for 2020. Presented in partnership with the BC Sports Hall of Fame Foundation, these awards recognize inspired service in and to sport in B.C. and we are proud to say that all six of the recipients have been part of the BC Games family in roles such as Provincial Advisors, coaches, participants, officials, and sport partners.

Through Sport BC and its members, ProMOTION Plus strives to ensure gender equity is a standard throughout the provincial sport sector and to ensure girls and women have equal opportunities in physical activity and sport.  For the past 20 years, ProMOTION Plus has worked to help all girls and women in BC have access to a complete range of opportunities, choices, and resources that lead to positive experiences in physical activity and competitive and recreational sport as participants and leaders.

The 2019 Premier’s Awards for Indigenous Youth Excellence in Sport recognized 36 recipients.

Among the inductees were BC Games alumnus Rawnie Weststrate, Team BC alumnus Aaron Lattimer, and BC Games and Team BC alumnus Sue Demuynck. 

A partnership was announced in August between the BC Games Society, Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity & Recreation Council (I·SPARC), Cross Country BC and BC Archery to expand the Indigenous Participation Program in the BC Games.
