A partnership was announced in August between the BC Games Society, Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity & Recreation Council (I·SPARC), Cross Country BC and BC Archery to expand the Indigenous Participation Program in the BC Games. This partnership provides a greater opportunity for Indigenous athletes, coaches and officials to compete and gain experience at the BC Games, with the potential to advance to compete at the North American Indigenous Games and Canada Games.

The partnership will create an additional eight spots in cross country and archery for Indigenous athletes to compete in the Games, as well as the opportunity for two Indigenous coaches and two Indigenous officials for each sport to gain experience.

The 2020 BC Winter Games will take place in Fort St. John from February 20-23, 2020, and will include up to 1,800 participants from across BC competing in 15 different sports.

Indigenous athletes interested in competing in the upcoming BC Games should note that zone trials for the 2020 BC Winter Games in archery have now been scheduled and will take place from November 24-December 1, 2019. For information on archery eligibility and zone trials please visit the BC Archery website.

Zone trials for cross country will take place from December 28-29, 2019. For information on cross country eligibility and zone trials please see the “BC Winter Games Technical Guidelines – 2020” on the Cross Country BC website.
