“It is of the upmost importance for us to be moving the summit across the province to engage the multiple communities that have produced so many inspiring athletes, coaches, administrators, media and others,” said Tom Mayenknecht, the Chair of the BC Sports Hall. “This obviously became impossible with the COVID-19 pandemic this year, but we’re doing the next best thing: holding the summit virtually to allow us to engage participants from all over the province – something we’re thrilled to be able to bring to the table.”
The recipients of the Eric Whitehead Inspired Service Award are a great example of how B.C.’s sport sector works together to help the province’s athletes as they move through the development pathway. The BC Games are an important stepping-stone in the Long-Term Athlete Development pathway and hosting the Games is dependent on the involvement of people like these award recipients.
The following are the winners of the Eric Whitehead Inspired Service Award for 2020:
- MJ Abbot, former Executive Director of Canoe Kayak BC
- Jane Blaine, Executive Director of BC Blind Sports and Recreation Association and former BC Games Society Board Member
- Scott Braley, CEO of Curl BC and former BC Games Society Board Member
- Brian McCalder, CEO of BC Athletics
- Wendy Pattenden, CEO of Canadian Sport Institute Pacific
- Margo Ross, Former Executive Director of BC Sport Branch
Each of the recipients has been involved with the BC Games in different roles over the years and we are thankful for their continued support.
