Sport BC's ProMOTION Plus strives to ensure gender equity is a standard throughout the provincial sport sector and to ensure girls and women have equal opportunities in physical activity and sport.  In partnership with the BC Games Society a ProMOTION Plus Leadership Award was presented at the Fort St. John 2020 BC Winter Games. The award recognizes, and celebrates, those who have supported girls and/or women in participating more fully in physical activity or sport.
This year‘s recipient, Morgan Burdock, is a well-known athlete in the Fort St. John community. Ever since discovering Spartan Racing in 2018, she has been active in the Spartan Mission to transform 100 million lives. Her first year of racing competitively was in 2019, where she competed in four races and finished with two bronze medals, a fifth-place finish and finally a gold medal to end her season. She also earned enough points to rank her as ninth overall nationally in the female age 25 – 29 category. She is a Spartan Canada Ambassador and in 2020 plans to compete in the 3-part Spartan Canadian National series, where her goal is to rank high enough to qualify for the Spartan world championship.
Morgan is also on a mission to encourage women and girls to get healthy and try Spartan races. She is recruiting a team of first time Spartan Racers for the May 2020 race in Red Deer, Alberta. She already has seven women signed up and her goal is 15. She spends her Saturday mornings volunteering leading bootcamps at the North Peace SuperPark, a non-profit very close to her heart.
“From a young age, Morgan‘s enthusiasm for sports was evident. Not only did she want to participate, she wanted to excel,” says Debbie Boswell, Morgan‘s mom who nominated her for the award. “Morgan has become an inspiration to many as she continues to propel herself to new heights in the Spartan Race Canada community.”
For the past 20 years, ProMOTION Plus has worked to help all girls and women in BC have access to a complete range of opportunities, choices, and resources that lead to positive experiences in physical activity and competitive and recreational sport as participants and leaders.  For more information about ProMOTION Plus, please visit the website at
