Five BC Games and Team BC alumni contributed to Canada's record setting medal haul at the Rio Olympic Games.

When the Olympic Games get underway in Rio there will be 37 Team Canada athletes who will remember that their journey began with the BC Games and Team BC.

There are 142 athletes, 45% of the national team, with a connection to B.C. on the Canadian Olympic team heading to Rio. This is the largest percentage of national team athletes with an affiliation to B.C. in recent history.

viaSport, Canadian Sport Institute Pacific, the BC Games Society, and SportMedBC are all lead organizations in the sport sector and formed a partnership in the name of fun and physical activity for over 3,500 children celebrating Olympic Day at the Richmond Olympic Oval.

12 BC Games and Team BC alumni took home top honours at the 50th annual Athlete of the Year Awards.

Kristi Richards’ path to the Olympics was paved by competing in the BC Winter Games.  “It was that little spark of what’s to come,” said Richards, who will the keynote speaker at the BC Winter Games Opening Ceremony in Penticton, Feb. 25.
