The first full day of competition at the Nanaimo 2014 BC Summer Games is complete. Preliminary qualifiers for all team sports were underway with medals awarded in individual competitions.

Richmond discus competitor Valerie Wideski breaks record
Under hot, sunny skies at the Rotary Bowl in Nanaimo, discus hurler Valerie Wideski topped competitors to break previously held records with a Gold winning throw of 37.61 metres.

Zone 6 reigns supreme at first day of triathlon events
Josiah Ney and Jordan Hopkins received shiny gold and silver medals respectively in both the Aquathlon (300 m swim/1 km run) and the Duathlon (1 km run/5 km bike/1 km run).
