BC Games alumni contribute to Team BC's 87 medals

Team BC had resounding success at the 2019 Canada Winter Games, brining home 87 medals – including a record-setting 30 gold medals.

The unprecedented success is certainly attributable to our strong provincial sport system and the work of Provincial Sport Organizations to provide high level coaching and competitive opportunities.

The BC Winter and BC Summer Games are also an important part of the development of athletes and are the first step for many to experience a multi-sport Games environment and where they find the drive and motivation to take their sport further.

Over 55 percent of Team BC was made up of BC Games alumni including 141 athletes who drew upon their past provincial Games experience and applied it on the national stage where they won or contributed to 51 of Team BC’s 87 medals.

One Year to Go to the Fort St. John 2020 BC Winter Games

The countdown is on.  February 20th marked one year until the Opening Ceremony of 2020 BC Winter Games in Fort St. John.  It has been over 35 years since Fort St. John last hosted the BC Winter Games and the economic impact is estimated to be approximately $1.6-million for the city.

Up to 1,800 volunteers will be responsible for planning and staging the Games, which will see up to 1,200 athletes, 300 coaches, and 200 officials in the city and region from February 20 to 23, 2020.

“This event will further showcase our community’s ability to successfully host large sporting events and provide a lasting legacy for generations to come,” stated Mayor Lori Ackerman.

We Are North - the tagline and branding for the 2020 Games is the epitome of Fort St. John, the most northern community in British Columbia to ever host the Games.
