Basketball coach Sylvester Noel found himself in an "interesting" situation in the gold medal 3x3 game at the BC Summer Games.

The two teams in the final — Vancouver Coastal and Vancouver Coastal A — were both under his coaching direction.

The Fraser Valley boys basketball squad lost 56-29 to Fraser River on Saturday.

No way was Owen MacDonald letting his team lose.

The Cariboo-North East player is the team’s “energizer bunny,” according to coach Aaron Brouwer. “He gets us going emotionally and he gets us fired up,” said Brouwer. MacDonald, who also has a great set of cheering lungs, was definitely key in Cariboo-North East’s 48-41 win over opposing team Vancouver-Coastal.

The first round of the playoffs is complete in the BC Summer Games three-on-three basketball tournament at Abbotsford Middle School, and several zones are rising to the top.

Despite the shot clock malfunctions and points to make up in the first quarter, Vancouver-Coastal A took the win against Vancouver Island-Central Coast on Day 2 of the BC Summer Games in Abbotsford.
