The Greater Vernon 2012 BC Winter Games ended Sunday with the final medals handed out and 1,145 athletes from across the province headed for home with memories of what will be, for many of them, a once-in-a-lifetime experience.  Fierce competition in 15 sports gave participants a taste of what it is like to perform in a multi-sport environment.

A huge snowfall on Silver Star Mountain continued to factor in to events there Saturday, but it didn't prevent the first medals being handed out in the sport of Ski-Cross which made its debut at the Greater Vernon 2012 BC Winter Games.

The Greater Vernon 2012 BC Winter Games were officially opened Thursday with Premier Christy Clark lighting BC Winter Games cauldron and commending the assembled athletes for being positive role models to their peers.
