Prince George speed skater Benjamin Konwicki was presented with the W.R. Bennett Award for Athletic Excellence by Alison Noble, President and CEO of the BC Games Society and Jamey Paterson, Chair of the BC Games Society Board of Directors during the Fort St. John 2020 BC Winter Games Closing Ceremony on Sunday, February 23.

After four days of exciting action, the 2020 BC Winter Games wrapped up today in Fort St John. Over 1,000 athletes competed in 15 sports at venues throughout Fort St. John and the North Peace Regional District, representing their home zones with determination and pride.

Great sportsmanship shown at Ringette finals today

As we head into Day 3 of the 2020 BC Winter Games, and final rounds of the ringette bracket, The energy is heating up at the Pomeroy Sports Centre in Fort St. John.  Zone 4 - Fraser River played for the bronze medal. Their parents talk about the athletes' commitment to the sport, waking up and playing from 7 AM to 7 PM most days.  However, today the girls were ready for the medal when they woke up at 4:45 AM to prepare for their match.

"The town has welcomed us with open arms and everything has been exceptional."

As part of the legacy from the games, nine local volunteers have been trained as entry level biathlon officials. A course was put on in January to certify the volunteers, with the hopes that a biathlon club will be started here in Fort St. John. Additionally the club will have an upgraded outdoor sound system, a much needed item for hosting large events such as these.
