“They’re so tall,” exclaims Bobby Kelly. “And they’re really fast!” The young point guard from Prince George, playing for  Zone 8 (Cariboo-North East), was surprised by the size and speed of the competition during the 3x3 Basketball at the Cowichan 2018 BC Summer Games. “We’re still working on some of our set plays,” he says. “Yesterday [day one] was really tiring but today I’m going to work on my defence.”

The speed of the game has also been new for shooting/point guard Gavin Cameron from Richmond, with Zone 5 (Vancouver-Coastal). “3x3 is a new concept for me because I usually train 5x5 with The Drive in Richmond,” says Gavin. “In the regular game of basketball you have a slower start, but in this style there’s no time to react. The second it starts, you go all out! I like it a lot.”

This determined athlete shares that his BC Games experience has been really positive so far, providing him with the opportunity to meet many new people. Yet socialization aside, he is focused on today’s performance. “I reflected on my play last night and today I’m will be trying to avoid being vulnerable when shooting the ball. I’m ready for it.”
