2018 BC Summer Games Venues Span the Region

In just under a year, for three days, as many as 2800 athletes will put their competitive training to the test in 18 sports at venues throughout the Cowichan Valley. From Mill Bay and Shawnigan Lake in the south to Ladysmith in the north, from Chemainus in the west, Lake Cowichan to the east, and Duncan in the centre, the Cowichan 2018 BC Summer Games will truly be regional Games.
The canoe/kayak sprint and slalom competitions will be held in Lake Cowichan while wrestling and lacrosse (box) will be hosted in Chemainus. Ladysmith will play host to lacrosse (field) and baseball and towed water sports will be held at Shawnigan Lake. Volleyball will be in Mill Bay and Duncan will be the place to see a variety of sports, including equestrian, swimming, rowing, and softball.
In addition to public and school district facilities, sports will take place at many private venues. This includes rugby at Shawnigan Lake School, golf at the Cowichan Golf and Country Club, triathlon at Brentwood College School, sailing hosted by the Maple Bay Yacht Club, and one of the basketball events at Queen Margaret’s School.
The new track surface at the Cowichan Sportsplex will be a highlight for the athletes in athletics and the soccer athletes will enjoy the opportunity to play on the remarkable Sherman Road Park turf field. The neighbouring community of Nanaimo will host synchronized swimming.
“The facilities in the Cowichan Valley will create remarkable and memorable competitions next summer,” said Kelly Mann, President and CEO for the BC Games Society. “The commitment by the partnering communities and the school district together with eager private facility partners will set the stage for high calibre competitions.”
While the Cowichan Valley has hosted many multi-sport games this will be the first time the BC Summer Games will be held in the region.
