BC Games Society 40th Anniversary

40th Anniversary

At a reception hosted at Government House by the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, the Honourable Judith Guichon, the BC Games Society celebrated 40 years of success by recognizing major accomplishments and key contributors to the organization.

Her Honour paid tribute to the organization that has given thousands of British Columbians the opportunity to pursue their potential through sport and volunteerism. Recognition was also given to the many people in the audience who have contributed to the success through board service, volunteer leadership, corporate contributions, and athlete and sport development.

This celebration kicked off what will be a year of remembering successes, recognizing contributors, and renewing enthusiasm for the BC Games. Throughout 2018, there will be 40th anniversary celebration events held in six past host communities – Abbotsford, Nanaimo, Penticton, Prince George, Terrace, and Trail. The celebrations will continue at the Kamloops 2018 BC Winter Games and the Cowichan 2018 BC Summer Games with a final event for the provincial sport system at the BC Sports Hall of Fame and Museum in October 2018.

Kamloops Community Awareness Event

Kamloops Community Awareness Event

Canada’s Tournament Capital is gearing up for the Kamloops 2018 BC Winter Games.  The community awareness event on October 17 officially marked the opening of the Kamloops 2018 BC Winter Games office, launched the volunteer recruitment campaign, and extended a thanks to community donors.

The theme for the Games is ‘Stronger Together’.  "We believe this speaks to the importance of the community in sport – whether that community includes teammates, coaches, moms and dads, or people you don’t even know. The community makes sport better through its support and encouragement,” explains Niki Remesz, Kamloops 2018 BC Winter Games President.
