Powering Potential Fund Announced

Powering Potential Fund

The BC Games Society has created the Powering Potential Fund thanks in part to $50,000 in matching funds from the B.C. government and a first donation of $15,000 from Coast Capital Savings.

The Powering Potential Fund will invest in projects that develop individual athletes, teams, sport organizations, and communities. It aims to address the challenges young athletes may face in pursuing high-performance pathways in sport, such as the costs and access to sport facilities or specialized equipment needed in the pursuit of excellence in provincial, national, and international competition.

Aboriginal Alumni honoured with Awards

Premiers Awards

The 2016 Premier’s Awards for Aboriginal Youth Excellence in Sport were presented to twelve outstanding Aboriginal youth athletes from British Columbia.  The Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity & Recreation Council (I•SPARC), in collaboration with the Government of British Columbia, created the Premier’s Awards for Aboriginal Youth Excellence in Sport to highlight the incredible achievements of Aboriginal youth athletes in the province.

Five of the recipients are BC Games alumni having competed at a BC Summer or BC Winter Games.  Congratulations to Mateya Haintz, Hayden Craig, Lyric Atchison, Shalaya Valenzuela, and Brandon Schellenberger.

Alumni at Special Olympics World Games

BCSO

After years of training and competition to reach the 2017 Special Olympics World Winter Games, the members of Team Canada from British Columbia truly delivered in Austria March 14 to 24.  Special Olympics Team Canada’s 16 athletes, eight coaches, and one mission staff member from B.C. did their province proud as they were well prepared to compete with skill and determination on the world stage. Competing in alpine skiing, cross country skiing, figure skating, snowshoeing, and speed skating, all of the B.C. athletes medalled, collectively earning 11 gold, 10 silver, and five bronze.

Congratulations to the 12 BC Games alumni who contributed to Team Canada's success!

Niagara Region 2021 Canada Summer Games

Niagara 2021

The Canada Games Council and the Province of Ontario announced that the Niagara Region will host the 2021 Canada Summer Games.  In just over four years, Niagara Region will welcome our nation’s next generation of national, international, and Olympic champions as the best young developing athletes from across Canada will converge to compete in Canada's largest multi-sport event.

“The 2021 bid evaluation process was extremely competitive with four remarkable communities putting forth outstanding bids to host the 2021 Canada Summer Games,” said Tom Quinn, Canada Games Council Chairman. “Everyone involved in the bids should be very proud of what they accomplished. It was rewarding for our entire committee to see such passion for the Canada Games in each community.”
