40 years of BC Games Legacy Initiatives and Capital Investments

The BC Winter and BC Summer Games have always been more than four days of sport and community celebration. Since their inception in 1978, the Games have created legacies of both human performance and sport investment.
In the first of our 40th Anniversary Feature Articles, BC Games Society President and CEO, Kelly Mann, delves into how the BC Games have been a unique catalyst for growth, for enhancing the community spirit, and re-investing in communities which give so much to host BC’s best young athletes, coaches, and officials.

BC Games and Team BC Alumni honoured at annual awards banquet
|
|
|
We are proud to recognize the 19 BC Games and Team BC alumni who were finalists for the Sport BC Athlete of the Year Awards. Special congratulations to winners – Jaqueline Lew (Female High School Athlete of the Year), Danielle Brisebois (University Athlete of the Year) and Andree Montreuil (Official of the Year).
Further congratulations to Abdul Shaikh, recipient of the Daryl Thompson Lifetime Achievement Award, Evan Dunfee, recipient of the KidSport Community Champion Award, and past Team BC Chef de Mission Rob Needham who was presented with a Presidents' Award for outstanding dedication and commitment to sport.

BC Games and Team BC Alumni reach the podium at PyeongChang 2018
|
|
|
25 BC Games and Team BC alumni competed for Team Canada at the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in PyeongChang including Olympic gold medalists Kelsey Serwa (ski cross), Cassie Sharpe (halfpipe), and Justin Kripps (bobsleigh), and Paralympic cross country skiing medalists Natalie Wilkie and Emily Young.

46 BC Games and Team BC Alumni representing Canada at the 2018 Commonwealth Games
|
|
|
The XXI Commonwealth Games are taking place in the Gold Coast of Australia from April 4 to 15, 2018. 283 athletes are competing for Team Canada and within that contingent are 46 BC Games and Team BC alumni. This includes 34 athletes who have competed at a BC Summer or BC Winter Games and 23 athletes who have competed for Team BC at the Canada Games or Western Canada Summer Games (11 athletes have competed at both).
