President named for Kamloops 2018 BC Winter Games

Kamloops, BC –February 22nd to 25th, 2018, the Tournament Capital will welcome over 2,000 athletes, coaches and officials from communities across BC as it hosts the 2018 BC Winter Games. Leading a volunteer Board of Directors as it prepares for the Games will be Kamloops local Niki Remesz, who has recently been appointed as President.
Remesz is a local business owner of Uniquely Inspired Marketing. She’s been involved with the 2013 BC Seniors Games, Kamloops Arts Commission, TRU Alumni and Friends Association, 2011 Western Canada Summer Games, 2006 BC Summer Games, the 1996 BC Games for People with Disabilities. She is also the recipient of a City of Kamloops Distinguished Service Award. Having moved to Kamloops in 1995, she enjoys Nordic and cross-country skiing, running, curling, golfing and hiking with her husband and 13 year old son.
“Kamloops hosted the first BC Winter Games in 1979. I look forward to connecting with all Games Alumni including athletes, volunteers, officials, and coaches,” commented Remesz. “I look forward to being a part of celebrating the BC Games’ 40 years. We can all expect something really special at the 2018 BC Winter Games.”
“Kamloops has earned its title of Tournament Capital,” said BC Games Society President and CEO, Kelly Mann. “The sport facilities and volunteer leadership in Kamloops are extraordinary. BC’s best young winter athletes and coaches will be well looked after in February 2018.”
Kamloops could expect an estimated $1.6 million economic impact from hosting. This will be the third time that Kamloops has hosted the BC Games, the first being the inaugural BC Winter Games in 1979, as well as the 2006 BC Summer Games.
“Not only are we excited to be hosting the BC Games in our community again, but having Niki Remesz heading up the volunteers promises an exceptional event. Niki’s heavy involvement in community initiatives has earned her a City Distinguished Service Award in the past, and we are looking forward to the expertise she will bring to this event,” said Kamloops Mayor Peter Milobar.
Approximately 2,000 volunteers will be required to host the 2018 BC Winter Games. The next BC Summer Games will be held July 21 to 24, 2016 in Abbotsford, BC.
