22 medals won by BC Games alumni at 2015 Pan Am Games

It was a record medal haul for Canada at the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto. The team won 217 medals: 78 gold, 69 silver and 70 bronze.
49 BC Games alumni were part of that success contributing 22 medals to the Canadian total.
One highlight was Richmond’s Evan Dunfee (2004 BC Summer Games) bringing home gold in the race walk.
“The BC Summer Games was my first “team” way back in 2004,” said Dunfee. “It was a huge carrot for me to chase and to get on that team was a huge moment for me. At the Games I made a whole ton of new friends, many of whom I am still in touch with. In my races at that age I always wanted to chase records and this was no different as I broke the BC Summer Games record. These teams have allowed me to gradually build to bigger and bigger things. Each stepping stone has prevented me from being thrown in the deep end of big, overwhelming teams, or alliteratively leave the sport from lack of interest. Additionally these teams taught me the values of sportsmanship and how to win with honour but more importantly how to lose with honour and respect! They crafted for me what became a lifelong love of track and field and their impact on my performances now is immeasurable.
In the pool, 17 year old sensation, Emily Overholt (2010 BC Summer Games) won gold in the 400m freestyle and set a Pan Am record only a day after being disqualified and losing out on gold in the 400IM. Teammate Hillary Caldwell (2006 BC Winter Games) won gold in the 200 back and were part of the team of 18 Canadian women on the swim team who all won at least one medal.
BC Games alumni also contributed to Canadian team medals in Baseball, Basketball, Field Hockey, Rugby, Volleyball and Water Polo.
Congratulations to Team Canada and our BC Games alumni.
