The Coaching Mentor/Apprenticeship Program (for female Apprentices) is a partnership between ProMOTION Plus, ViaSport , and the BC Games Society. The program was developed to assist and support female coaches in their pursuit of higher levels of coaching certification. This program is designed to assist and support them as they enhance and develop their coaching skills.

 

Goals

-To pair experienced coaches with female apprentices (a maximum of 10 mentor and 10 female apprentice coaches will be selected to attend each BC Games

-To increase the number of qualified coaches starting at the club and provincial level and moving toward the national and international level

-To support female coaches in improving their coaching skills, attaining higher level coaching opportunities and careers in coaching.



Program Benefits 

  • Funding is available up to $200 per person for each mentor and apprentice pair of coaches

  • Travel, accommodation, and meals at the BC Games will be provided through the BC Games Society.

  • Full accreditation as team staff (in addition to the team staff limit for each sport) at the BC Games. 

Process

 

Apprentice coach opportunities are for female coaches only, while mentor coaches may be male or female. Both apprentice and mentor coaches must have support of their Provincial Sport Organization (PSO) prior to applying.

 

Apprentices and Mentors will meet (via conference call) with the partners, to begin the process of defining their mentorship objectives and to commit to outcomes and goals that they establish.  There will be a second meeting closer to the Games to review and update the progress of these matches.  Apprentices are required to attend the BC Games and Mentors are encouraged to attend.

 

Deadline: The deadline to apply for Summer Games is April 7, 2014.
