The newest BC Games advertisement promoting the 2014 BC Summer Games has started airing on Global BC.

This campaign is aimed at generating awareness and telling the story of how the BC Games is the starting point for athletes to achieve the highest levels of competition.

This is where it begins, features 2012 Olympic Bronze medalist and BC Games alumnus Brent Hayden along with 14 year old aspiring BC Games athlete Michael Mitchell of Vancouver.

Hayden got his start in sport through his local swim club and then had the opportunity to attend the 1998 BC Summer Games where he won multiple medals and realized that he had the potential to go further in his chosen sport of swimming.  That inspiration took him to compete for Canada at three Olympics culminating with winning a bronze medal in the 50 meters at the London 2012 Olympic Summer Games.

The ad shoot took place in January at St. George’s School in Vancouver where Michael is a grade eight student.  Brent’s arrival at the facility immediately generated excitement as a group of young swimmers who were practicing got an unexpected visit from an Olympian and took home autographs and photos to remember the moment.
