On October 28, 2020, the BC Games Society met with its Provincial Sport Organization (PSO) and Disability Sport Organization (DSO) partners to discuss the Games and the important working relationship between organizations. All 36 organizations involved in the BC Winter and BC Summer Games were represented in the Society’s first ever virtual sport organization meeting.

Jamey Paterson, Board Chair of the BC Games Society, expressed his gratitude for the Society’s partner sport organizations and shared his thoughts on the important role PSOs and DSOs play in the Games. “Thank you so very much to our PSO partners for taking the time to join us for our biennial information sharing session,” said Paterson. “The Games could not take place without the support of our partner sport organizations and we extend our gratitude for their ongoing commitment and expertise to ensure the continued success of the BC Summer and BC Winter Games.”

The meeting highlighted the successes of the 2020 BC Winter Games and reviewed key updates on the Society’s return to Games plan for the Greater Vernon 2022 BC Winter Games.

Alison Noble, President and CEO of the BC Games Society highlighted the importance of working together as a sport sector to tackle important issues as B.C. returns to sport and competition. “The BC Games enjoys a strong and collaborative relationship with our PSO and DSO friends and this opportunity to hear their ideas and comments further cements that relationship,” said Noble. “We look forward to continuing our work together to ensure we can continue to deliver exceptional experiences in sport in this new landscape.”

Group discussions focused on COVID-19 protocol updates and brainstorming creative ways to enhance the athlete experience at the Games with participant safety a top priority.

The sport packages for the 2022 BC Winter and BC Summer Games will be announced in the coming months and work is already underway for PSOs to identify Provincial Advisors and key individuals to plan towards the next Games.
