In the Community of Dawson Creek, preparations for the skiing-alpine competitions started in the summer. A lot of work went into widening the main run and running wiring up the slope. New timing huts and starting gates were constructed. While there was a plan in place to upgrade the snowmaking capability, it was accelerated to accommodate the BC Winter Games.

“Bear Mountain is extremely excited to be hosting the Alpine Skiing event for the BC Games.  We are excited that people who live in our area will have a chance to see the quality of racing that can occur on our mountain.  As well we are excited to showcase the South Peace Region and what Bear Mountain has to offer. We believe our small hill, which is run by volunteers, is an important facility in the region.

We are hopeful that a result of these games will be more exposure for Bear Mountain, including the formation of a race club accessible to all in the Peace area.” said Bryan Harman, the Sport Chair for Alpine Skiing at the BC Winter Games and a volunteer at Bear Mountain.

The ski hill is hosting the alpine portion of the games, specifically a U14 slalom race.

Bear Mountain Ski Hill is located on the outskirts of Dawson Creek. Built in 1959 the Ski Hill offers a T-Bar and ten runs (beginner to intermediate), a terrain park as well as seven cross-country ski trails

The slope has 10 runs (Main, Bradford, West, Havards, Big Bear, Knox, Old Road, Easy Way Down, Bobs Run and the Chute) and a terrain park. The Bear Mountain Nordic Ski Association operates the large cross-country ski trail network.
