PacificSport Interior BC was the recipient of one of the Kamloops 2018 BC Winter Games Society legacy projects. PacificSport received $15,000 for coach certification support throughout the region.
To date, PacificSport has provided funding to 22 coaches.
“It’s going really well,” says Carolynn Boomer, Executive Director, PacificSport Interior BC. “The legacy is very much appreciated by coaches in the region.”
The fund was set up for anyone who wished to take an NCCP Coaching Course. The registration would be reimbursed upon completion of the course.
"I am grateful for the support to advance my coaching knowledge in the sport I love, speed skating,” adds Sandi Vyse, from the Kamloops Long Blades Speed Skating Club. “PacificSport Interior BC understands the expense that coaches go through to maintain and stay current with their education so I appreciate their work with the BC Games Society and the Kamloops 2018 BC Winter Games.”
PacificSport will also use the funding to assist Provincial Sport Organizations and Local Sport Organizations wishing to host any NCCP courses in the Interior region. Funding applications began in April and will continue until all the funding has been allocated.
“It's awesome to get these courses in Kamloops,” continues Vyse. “It eliminates the travel costs as well."
PacificSport acknowledges the significant contribution of coaches and their commitment to the development of athletes at all levels.
These coaches grants will ensure that the legacy of the 2018 BC Winter Games continues to live on.
