The Cowichan 2018 BC Summer Games are put on by a team of about 2500 volunteers, with the unified goal of supporting young athletes from across the Province. Here are some of the faces of our amazing volunteers!

Cameron and Robert
Cameron Tuck and Robert Power were pulled away from their Information Booth duties at 7:45am on Friday to help sort out distribution of 3200 sandwiches. All of the sandwiches for a number of schools were mistakenly sent to one place, so Cameron and Robert pitched in to divide and redistribute the food so that the athletes didn't miss out on their lunches! These two young men are doing an awesome job of showing their colours!

Noah Janssen

The Cowichan 2018 BC Summer Games Board has promised to leave a legacy in the community after the Games are over. One of these legacies has been to certify close to 60 residents in the Cowichan area with First Aid training. Last weekend, 16 year old Noah Janssen of Nanaimo, BC, participated in this training and received his Level 1 First Aid. Putting his skills to immediate use, Noah chose to spend his 17th birthday on the soccer pitch, volunteering as a First Aid attendant at the Cowichan 2018 BC Summer Games. This photo shows Noah finally out to celebrate his birthday at about 8:00pm.

Norma and Megan

Norma and her daughter, Megan, are part of the traffic direction volunteer team. They bring experience volunteering for the Nanaimo Seniors Games, last weekend's Provincial Elder's Gathering, and are working this weekend at Providence Farm's Island Folk Festival between shifts at the Games. Norma and Megan symbolize the community spirit that this Summer Games is all about!

Ashley and Russell

Ashley and son, Russell, help a Rowing event volunteer choose from a delectable assortment of goodies that Ashley made up for her concession at the Rowing event. Ashley stepped in when the food truck scheduled for the event was unable to make it today. At the last minute, Ashley was asked if she could provide a water station, but she has gone the extra mile to offer lemonade, muffins, cheesecake, and fruit cups. She has volunteered for all 3 days to help out with concessions, making sure that their set-up goes okay, that they have bins for garbage, electricity as needed, etc. With young children, Ashley has put her culinary training to use operating "Just Add Butter," her Maple Bay catering business specializing in cakes and muffins. Thanks Ashley and family for saving the day at our Rowing venue!
