Watching the swimming finals at the Cowichan Aquatic Centre, it’s hard to not to get swept up by the cheering crowd. Especially when that crowd is encouraging a swimmer who is working hard to complete her race, after her competitors have already finished.
Despite being two laps behind, and the only swimmer remaining in the pool, fellow swimmers, coaches, officials and fans are cheering as loudly as if it was a head-to-head race to the finish line. As she hits the wall, the pool erupts in screaming, and her fellow competitors swim over to congratulate her.
It’s moments like these, that remind you what the BC Games are all about. Teamwork, comradery and friendship.
