One of the promises of the Cowichan 2018 BC Summer Games Board is to leave a legacy in the community after the Games are done. One legacy is certifying more residents in the Cowichan area with industrial first aid.

"We have an active group of medical volunteers who want to give back to the community," explains Director of Medical Services, Dr. Nick Withers. "Partnering with the Kinette Club of Duncan and Cowichan Valley Training Centre, we are hoping to train 60 Games volunteers - for free. These two organizations have generously supported this legacy project."

There are three opportunities to recieve the WorkSafeBC Standard for Indutry Level 1 Equivalent training:

  • June 11 to 14 5:30 to 9:30pm
  • July 3 to 6 5:30 to 9:30pm
  • July 7 and 8 8:30am to 4:30pm
  • July 14 & 15 8:30am to 4:30pm

Anyone interested in attending the training needs to register in person at the BC Summer Games office at 540 Cairnsmore Street, Duncan. The training is only open to registered BC Summer Games volunteers and is limited to 60 spots. A fully refundable $20 deposit will be required to secure a position and will be returned on completion of the course. In return for this opportunity, session attendees are expected to volunteer a minimum of eight-hours (in any area) during the Games.

The Cowichan 2018 BC Summer Games will take place at 27 venues throughout the Cowichan region from July 19-22. Over 3,500 athletes, coaches and officials will take part in these Games, with the average competitor being 14-years-old.
