‘Long Time Canadian Archery Coach, Susan Lemke, Holds an Impressive Resume!’
Archery may just seem like any other sport or activity, but to Susan Lemke this is not the case! Susan was introduced to archery in 1972 – the same year it was introduced as an Olympic competition. Susan fell in love with the sport and she instantly became a fan and active participant. In 1986 Susan began coaching archery.
She started coaching college students, who were interested in trying out archery for the first time. This was only the start of what would be an exceptional coaching career for Susan.
“I have so many favorite highlights of my coaching career. I love sharing my passion for the sport and I watching young athletes as they hone their archery skillsets,” Susan explained. Her most memorable coaching moments include:
- Coaching her daughter during her medal win at a past BC Summer Games
- Coaching the Canadian Junior Archery Team to a silver and gold medals at the World Junior Championships
- Being a member of the coaching staff for the archery team at the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing
Susan’s love for the sport, her passion for working with people, and attention for detail has gotten her the respect of the Canadian sporting community on a National level.
“I’m making a point to say ‘thank you’ to the volunteers, coaches, and assistants involved this weekend because they are doing a thankless job. But, they are doing a great job,” explained Susan. The gratitude that Susan holds for the BC Games, and everyone who is involved in the Games, is infectious
