BC Winter Games Wheelchair Athlete, Derek Jezewsky, Is Taking Advantage of New Opportunities That Come His Way!

Local Kamloops athlete, Derek Jezewsky, who is participating in this year’s Kamloops 2018 BC Winter Games, got involved in wheelchair basketball only six months ago! Even though Derek has only been playing wheelchair basketball for the past six months, he already gained a lot of experience, and he has been enjoying every minute of his experiences. “I love the people and the action,” Derek shared. Derek plays for Zone 8 (red team) and wears jersey number 9.

One of Derek’s strongest skills is his ability to stay calm, cool, and collected. “I don’t do a lot to prepare mentally for games. I just go out there and play,” he explained. Derek’s mellow and cool demeanor not only help him off the court, but he uses it to his advantage on the court. It is fair to say that Derek has done an excellent job honing his strengths – after just half a year as a part of the sport he is representing his community at the Kamloops 2018 BC Winter Games

Check out wheelchair basketball in action at Sahali Secondary all day on Saturday, February 24, 2018. Watch Friday’s wheelchair basketball and basketball (Special Olympics) recap video on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nKqnC8ZMg8.

Kamloops residents and volunteers will be cheering Derek on today and hope to see him compete at the Fort St. John 2020 BC Winter Games too!
