Kamloops, British Columbia – The City of Kamloops is ready to welcome thousands of athletes, coaches, officials and spectators to Canada’s Tournament Capital and has declared this week “Kamloops 2018 Winter Games Week” to officially mark the occasion.
“The City of Kamloops has been tremendously supportive of the 2018 BC Winter Games,” says Niki Remesz, Kamloops 2018 BC Winter Games President. “By declaring this week ‘Kamloops 2018 BC Winter Games Week’ the City has officially fired the start pistol on the Games, which is so exciting!”
The proclamation sets the tone for the Kamloops 2018 BC Winter Games. “We are ready to show the BC sporting community why we are Canada’s Tournament Capital,” Remesz continues. “Kamloops is thrilled to welcome the 1,765 athletes, coaches and officials that will compete in 21 different events in 19 sports. Our facilities are ready, our 1,600 volunteers are in place, and our community can’t wait to get the party started.”
The BC Winter Games is an important multi-sport competition that serves as a preparation for higher level competition, plays an integral role in the BC Sports delivery system. The Games are managed locally by the Kamloops 2018 BC Winter Games Society, which is a volunteer-driven organization committed to the development of athletes, coaches and officials. In addition to providing immediate economic benefit to Kamloops, the games also serve as a vehicle for many community legacies, such as trained athletes and coaches, improved facilities, and community pride and spirit.
Games participants will begin arriving in Kamloops this week, with participant accreditation beginning on Thursday, February 22 at 7 AM. The Opening Ceremony will be at the Sandman Centre beginning at 7:00 PM on February 22nd with a pre-show starting at 6:30 PM. The Kamloops 2018 BC Winter Games will conclude with Closing Ceremony at the Sandman Centre beginning at 1:30 PM on Sunday, February 25, 2018.
