Dawn Petrie’s connection to the BC Games has transpired over the years with a common thread, gratitude.

Dawn competed in both the 100-metre sprint and shot put at the 1983 BC Summer Games in Maple Ridge. She recalls the entire tournament with nostalgia, adding, “It was great, a unique experience. Just getting accepted to the Games was a rush itself. Only two of us in Fort St. John got to compete so it was exciting to fly down to Vancouver and be immersed in the community.”

Although Dawn did not make the podium, she believes the most memorable part was, “…being with so many skilled athletes from all over the province. It was a rush competing in two categories but the atmosphere and sense of belonging was great. We forget how rare it is to have so much young talent in one place at one time.”

In February, Dawn’s business, Four Star Communication will provide emergency tele-communication support where forty volunteers will answer and direct calls for emergency personnel, athletes, spectators, and anyone requiring assistance. The team of 40 volunteers will be an invaluable resource in and around Kamloops to provide communication assistance for locals and visitors alike.

Dawn’s contributions to the sports community stems from an appreciation of sports shaping young athletes into strong members of the community. She adds, “I wanted to get involved with the Games because it’s an inspiration for kids. I believe that society can be tough sometimes with bullying, technology, and other distractions. Yet, the Games can bring out something good and steer kids in the right direction. I’m looking forward to contributing the best resources I can. I feel very strongly about getting involved because sports and social interactions are so critical and positive.”

A common thread among interviewed alumni is the nostalgia and overwhelming sense of gratitude to past coaches and teammates. Four Star Communication’s support during a tournament of this capacity will not go un-noticed and will be a valuable asset throughout the city of Kamloops.

Four Star Communications has been an industry leader for over 20 years and provides 24/7 365 services throughout British Columbia. The company uses state-of-the-art systems to assist businesses with answering services; telecommunications; order entry, and voicemail.
