British Columbia's best young triathlon athletes squared off against formidable competition at the 2016 BC Summer Games Saturday afternoon: their coaches.

After a day and a half of grueling action, with athletes taking part in a triathlon, duathlon and aquathlon, a little lighter fare took place Saturday afternoon during a mixed non-competitive relay.

Athletes were mixed into teams of four with zones split up and the winner getting bragging rights at dinner Saturday morning. But the athletes also took on several teams of coaches – two of whom used their experience, lack of fatigue from the weekend, and the fact that, unlike the athletes, they didn't require them to each complete the whole course to beat their young charges.

Each team finished together, exchanging high-fives, and the entire event concluded with all the athletes running through the finish line with the last coach to conclude the race.

More serious competition resumes tomorrow at Albert Dyck Park with the F1 race, a short and rapid triathlon.
