Coast Capital Savings has been a Corporate Partner with the BC Games Society since 2013, as part of the credit union’s commitment to invest 10 per cent of its bottom line in projects and initiatives in its communities, with a focus on youth. From presenting each Games’ participant with a t-shirt and drawstring bag courtesy of Coast Capital to involving Coast Capital Savings employees in the Games, over the past five Games Coast Capital Savings has impacted over 13,000 BC Games athletes, coaches, and officials. And the impacts have been lasting, as Coast Capital representatives attending the Games have seen firsthand the commitment and dedication of BC Games participants. Everyone attends comes away with a story about a connection they made while attending a ceremony, watching a competition, or presenting a medal.

To further support Games athletes, Coast Capital also implemented a Leadership Bursary Program in 2014. Athletes apply by outlining their sport and community leadership endeavors, with over 250 applications received for each Games. At the Closing Ceremony, sixteen $500 bursaries are awarded to young leaders who are honoured for their commitment to sport and their community. In total, 80 bursaries have been presented to athletes from 53 communities representing 35 sports so far. What a terrific way to acknowledge and inspire young leaders!

Not only has Coast Capital reached individuals directly involved with the Games, they have also impacted the broader local community in a significant way. In Games’ communities across the province, local branch staff have volunteered at events and driven social media campaigns. Through all these initiatives, Coast Capital Savings has reached over 11,000 volunteers ranging in age from 5 to 97.

In 2017, Coast Capital Savings contributed to the BC Games Society's Powering Potential Fund in support of facility and equipment upgrades and purchases for more than 15 sports. The projects supported are legacies for the community and also support competition for future BC Games. The competition starting blocks at the Cowichan Aquatic Centre in Duncan are one example of the role Coast Capital Savings has played in supporting community sport and the BC Games.

The BC Games Society looks forward to creating more exceptional experiences for the upcoming BC Winter Games in Fort St. John, together with Coast Capital Savings.
