At the Sport BC Athlete of the Year Awards, sport organizations each honour volunteers who have served their organization.  The President's Awards recognize volunteerism and commitment to sport.

The BC Games Society looks among its sport and community volunteers and recognizes a volunteer each year who embodies the values of the BC Games.

Michelle and Gary Ricks were selected for the 2016 award due to their long service in support of the BC Winter Games.  They have both attended the BC Winter Games representing Gymnastics BC in a variety of capacities including as a coach, Assistant Provincial Advisor, and Provincial Advisor.

Michelle and Gary have played an important role in the success of Gymnastics at the BC Winter Games and to the growth of the sport overall.  They have together served as Provincial Advisor for Gymnastics for the past 16 years.

Garry began his gymnastics coaching career when he was 14 years old.  He is NCCP certified level 3, has 33 coaching experience and 25 years experience in judging gymnastics.  Over his coaching career, Gary has been no stranger to the BC Winter Games having attended over 14 times as the Assistant Provincial Advisor and as a coach. 

Michelle has experience in coaching Competitive Women’s Gymnastics, Fun and Fit, Jr. Gym, Special Needs, School Groups. She is NCCP Level 2 certified with 10 years judging experience and 21 coaching experience. 

The BC Games Society gratefully acknowledges Michelle and Gary’s leadership. They take on all of their tasks and roles them with respect, integrity, a sense of humour, and with tremendous wisdom.
