Sovereign Lake Nordic Club Biathlon Celebrates Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

The Sovereign Lake Nordic Club has plenty to celebrate as they officially opened their new biathlon range on November 20, 2021, which will be put to good use in the lead up to and throughout the Greater Vernon 2022 BC Winter Games, February 24-27, 2022.

Athletes, coaches, parents, family, and friends, worked tirelessly to bring their vision of a new biathlon range to life. Made possible through a generous financial donation by an anonymous donor and in-kind donations from various businesses through the BC Winter Games’ Friends of the Games sponsorship program, the upgraded space at the Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre will host the Games’ Biathlon competition, in addition to Cross Country Skiing and Para Nordic Skiing.

Coaches Jacqueline and Annik, as well as and long-time volunteer Lynn Algra and her husband Peter, were on hand for the ceremony. As it was finally time for the club to symbolically cut ties to the old range, the traditional ribbon cutting was replaced with the cutting of the old target reset rope. The new firing line, wireless target system, roof structure, and lighting reflected brightly off the smiles of those cheering on loudly while in attendance.

Among the most modern in all of Canada, the new range features 20 wireless target systems, a concrete back and floor pad, lead containment devices, and an internal LED lighting system.

Less than 100 days from the start of the Games, the excitement brought on by the facility upgrades is exactly what the BC Winter Game are about!
