Greater Vernon will host the 31st BC Winter Games February 24-27 2022, with 2,000 athletes, coaches, managers, and officials.
Over 1,800 local volunteers will help facilitate 17 different sports. Local business owner and active community member, David Scarlatescu has taken role of the Director of Marketing.
“The 2022 BC Winter Games are set to generate approximately $1.6 million for the local economy” David stated, “As a small busines owner in Vernon, there is no denying the positive impact of the tourism industry on my business. I personally am very excited about what the games will bring to us from a tourism perspective, and the value provided will give local businesses a much-needed boost during that time.”
"Local members bring a strong sense of commitment and community to these Games.” President, Val Trevis said. “We are all enormously invested in seeing the Games come to Vernon where we can create the best possible sport experience and showcase success for everyone in this region. When I look at our list of Directors and the teams, they are all putting together to support their efforts, it is an inspiring group of individuals that will collectively put Vernon on the map for a very successful event. It is already a great team to be leading.”
The marketing team has created a new tagline and branding to go along with the BC Games logo.
Victory through Adversity. This design, created by Mark Prosser, is a direct representation of how together we all overcame adversity of the events that transpired throughout the past year. Hidden in the logo, the “V” embodies a lake and a sunrise to symbolize our many lakes and a new day dawns a new beginning. The “A” is characterized as a mountain to represent a metaphorical mountain we all climb to achieve success. Along with a hidden arrow at the bottom to represent aiming high and moving forward to achieve our goals.
“The Host Society has shown incredible resilience while planning these Games,” said Alison Noble, President and CEO of the BC Games Society. “The tagline Victory Through Adversity is extremely fitting and I am certain that Greater Vernon will host a remarkable and memorable event for the athletes, coaches, and officials in 2022.”
Vice President Teresa Durning stated, “Vernon is one of those communities where you can feel the synergy between volunteers during events and the excitement is contagious. Pulling these Games off will show true determination, adaptability and be monumental”
Some organizers are still fulfilling leadership roles and general volunteers will have a callout later this spring.
