Monster Sixth Inning Lifts Zone 5 Girls Softball Team to Gold

By Kyle Christensen

A great pitching duel was flipped on it's lid in the sixth inning of the girls gold medal softball game, as Zone 5 (Vancouver-Coastal) scored sixth to break a one-all tie. Clutch hitting made the difference, as Zone 2 (Thompson-Okanagan) stranded the bases loaded twice and were unable to stretch a one-nothing lead.

It took until the fourth inning, but it was another bases loaded situation, and Zone 5 came through with one run to tie the game. Fast forward to the sixth inning, the bases are loaded with Nicole Sparrow at the plate. "It was tight the entire game, I went up to bat shaking and wanting my team to win, I just thought, I have nothing to lose, I just have to swing and do it," says Sparrow. She drove in the winning runs and was the catalyst in what turned into a six run inning.
