Vollyball Team Rallies

By Linda Thomsen

Spencer Thompson, a volleyball player from Richmond, has been training hard for his first BC Summer Games. "And," says his little sis, "he ate less junk food!"

Spencer says that he mentally prepares himself for games by listening to hip-hop during warm up. This Zone 5 (Vancouver - Coastal) athlete has been inspired by Brent Hayden, the BC Games alumni who went on to win a Bronze medal in Swimming 100m Freestyle at the 2012 London Olympics. Spencer enjoyed hearing Brent at the Cowichan 2018 BC Summer Games Opening Ceremonies and hopes his experience with the BC Games will lead him to the Olympics as well.

Spencer's highlight of the Games so far has been his team's second game, in which they were down by 7 points in the second set, but worked really hard to turn it around and win by 2 points with a score of 25/22!
