With roots in the Ancient Greek Olympic Games pole vaulting continues to attract young athletes at the Cowichan 2018 BC Summer Games.
“My gymnastics coach suggested I try it,” explains Tyza Skuse from Zone 6 (Vancouver Island - Central Coast). “I live in Campbell River so I have to drive a lot each week to Nanaimo for coaching. It’s a big commitment but totally worth it.”
Teammate Olivia Lundman is glad she lives in Lantzville when it comes to her chosen athletics sport. “I’m nice and close to the club,” she says. Perfect for this long term track athlete. “I started track at 10 and always thought pole vaulting was cool. As soon I was old enough I tried it and fell in love.”
